i got started in the towing and recovery business completely by necessity.
i was your typical, cowboy wanna-be jock football player in high school. i had a knack for remembering everything i read, therefore school came too easy to
me. i started running around with all the "cool" people in school, and doing alot of things that i shouldn't, and before i realized it, i found
myself behind the walls of the west tennessee state penitentiary for a total of 30 months. i blew 2 scholarships, and stained my reputation for life! when i
got out, the only jobs i could find were underpaid and deadend. i started turning wrenches, and really became quite skilled at it. one day, a fella that
owned a local wrecker service in town came in to drop off a car at the dealership i worked at, and he was on the phone complaining to someone about how it was
hard to find anyone to run his trucks at night, so when he got off of the phone, i asked him to give me a shot at it. he gave me his card, and i pestered him
for 2 weeks until he finally let me start at night. within a year, i was managing the entire company, and had quit working as a mechanic to drive full time.
i ran his show for 5 yrs until he decided that he wanted to sell out and go over the road. some bad financial decisions and tax avoidance had left the company
in a pretty bad financial quandry. i really didn't know what i was going to do, so i went and talked to the owner of several local repair shop/gas
stations that we towed for and persuaded him to take his not for hire wrecker and open up to the public. he was against the idea of opening any more cans,
since he wanted to retire in the next couple of yrs, so i finally talked him in to fronting me enough money to purchase a conventional, his rollback, and
enough start-up money to keep me in fuel until i could go and salvage some of my old accounts. that was 2.5 yrs ago, and i've since paid him off
completely, and purchased another truck outright. i guess once this business grabs ahold of you, you dont have a chance!
